Too Late For Cover Crops?

I wanted to throw in some cover crops this year but I chickened out. I could not justify "wasting" space on clover when I could be growing collard greens. I am starting to change my mind about it. Its almost winter-ish outside and the garden is looking a little sad. Its hot during the day but cold at night. I need to do some work back there this weekend. Pull out some old tomatoes I left to do something but they ended up doing nothing. There are also come sad looking bell peppers that need to get ripped out.

Is it too late to plant cover crops? Should I try a spot?

When are you planning use the bed you want to amend?

I sowed New Zealand White Clover Cover Crop. Not only in bare areas where I will do spring planting but also sown between row plantings. It's even drought tolerant to boot!

cover crops can nourish your garden with nitrogen and don't forget to rotate crops this spring.

I don't think it's too late for cover crops. Even if you only left them in for two months (Feb & March) I would think that they would improve the quality of your soil and provide some green manure come time to plant out your beds again. At least, it can't hurt, right?

The "What to do this month" section of Sunset addresses cover crops... Go for it!
