Getting Closer

I spent my 4th of July holiday painting my dining room. I was thinking rest and relaxation but I decided that Home Depot with the rest of Long Beach would be much better. I picked Sandcastle for the color. I like it, I think. First I did, then I didn't. Now I'm not too sure. I should have gotten flat but i got semi-gloss instead. I thought it might look nice when we install the light fixtures we have yet to find. I don't know. It does look nice up against the repaired door.

Also bought some hardware that I need to take back. I went big and it was a little too big. I bought this beautiful Baldwin set. I paid $180 for it (good thing it don't fit) I saw the same exact set at a local hardware store for $499. w/out tax and I would have had to pay shipping. Not even in stock for that price. It was a real eye opener as to what a "neighborhood" hardware store is all about. Its too bad. You try and support the little guy but in the end are the prices higher because they get a crappy deal? Or is it because they are cashing in on the home restoration movement and just trying to jack us?

Who knows?

On a more exciting note I heard from our painter, he is going to start by the end of the week. Got any suggestions on colors?

Ma & Pa "neighborhood" stores do get a bad deal.. The reason they have to have higher prices is because typically their pockets are not as deep as the Big Box stores.. It is sad.. because The "neighborhood" guys need our support more that anyone...
